My story

Welcome to my website where I hope you can connect with me, my art and mission to create art with wonder and empathy.

I’m a contemporary painter based in Wellington, New Zealand, shaped by Scandinavian and Irish heritage and a lifelong fascination with the inner workings of the human experience. Art has always been the place where I make sense of the world — a space where intuition, emotion, and curiosity can coexist without needing to be resolved.

My practice explores philosophical, spiritual and psychological concepts through bold colour, contrast, gesture, mark‑making, layered impasto and drip painting. I’m drawn to the tension between what is considered beautiful or painful, miraculous or mundane, and how this can hinge on changing perspective or acceptance.

I am dedicating the first half of 2026 to painting a series of abstract portraits called Renewing, which all rest on seams of light, shadow, and water. The shadow holds fear and anxiety, light speaks of childlike joy and innocence, and water reflects memory and renewal — all felt or denied, in a fluid balance.

Each painting begins as an exploration and becomes a conversation — between my mission, context, materials, and whatever emerges. My hope is that the work offers viewers a moment of connection, recognition, and perhaps a sense of wonder or empathy for our shared human experience.
